The unique hotel We are generally satisfied. The location of this hotel is unique and looks like tropical paradise. Some rooms are dated and need renovation. Not all the installations work properly. Booking the golf package we had feeling, that the golfers are treated slightly different. We were the clients of the golf course, not the hotel and it was not easy to coordinate our schedule between these two institutions. The staff is partly very friendly and polite, like waitres, but the team in the front desk was not very keen to help and flexible. Anyway, we hope to return after expected renovation. Great location , however rooms and bathrooms looking tired and hotel is over-digitalized Hotel is living off its reputation. Over-digitalized asking guests to use apps/QR codes and their smart phone all the time. It was out third visit. 1st visit: 10 out of 10 / 2nd visit: 8 out of 10 / 3rd visit: 5 out of 10. Food quality and presentation gone downhill- had various stomach upsets. Food in speciality restaurants even worse than buffet, where it was at least freshly made. Had booked superior room and asked for upstairs=were told we have to pay another 50Euro/week to get such a room. Got there and the hotel was only about 30% full and lots of rooms upstairs with view available. Weren't even allowed to check in at Los Christianos port prior to paying the extra charge. Fred Olsen is just out for profit. Hotel will be refurbished next year (bathrooms from the 1970's with bathtub and plastic shower curtain and not real step-in shower) which means prices will even go higher. Price for wine totally exaggerated= Euro 25 for the cheapest house wine in the speciality restaurant and Euro 18 in the buffet. Overall a good holiday but spoilt by what the hotel has been doing = high prices, shabby bathrooms and too many requests on screens everywhere prompting customers to use all the digitalised services in an attempt to save on staff. You would not expect this at a hotel with a "still excellent" reputation. Great location but needs refurbishment and better management We have been staying at this hotel for years and for the most part have been happy with what it offers.nThe rooms are in need of updating and I understand a major refurbishment is planned for next year with the closure of the hotel from April to December.nThe restaurants offer good dining and friendly and attentive staff but only the buffet is open every day. The others are closed on some nights of the week but there is always a choice. Depending on occupancy the main bar area may be closed and the quality of entertainment is variable.nOn the last day of our holiday my wife went for a shower and when she got out and replaced her spectacles she was dismayed to find that she looked as though she had showered in a coal mine. It appears that there had been a plumbing problem but we and presumably other guests had not been informed. We rang reception and were told to run the hot water to flush the pipes. This advice would have been helpful had we been informed before taking a shower. I asked to speak to the manager but none was available.nWe were leaving at 5.30 the next morning. I was told the manager would phone me at home the day after my return but no call received after 4 days.nI doubt if a phone call was ever intended and that is bad management.nFortunately my wife has suffered no adverse effects from her disgusting shower but the consequences could have been very different.nThere appears to be a communication problem between customer service and reception.nYou may be dismayed by the time it takes to check in or indeed just get access to the reception staff when it is other than very quiet.nI like this hotel and hope it gets better management with the forthcoming refurbishment.n Guest reviews
